What this tool uses

When you submit a VIN, the browser requests vehicle attributes from NHTSA’s vPIC API. When decoded make, model and model year are available, VINDECODE also requests matching recall campaigns from NHTSA’s public recalls API. The recall results match a make, model and year; they do not establish whether a particular vehicle is affected or whether a repair is outstanding.

Returned fields depend on manufacturer submissions and database coverage. Blank or missing values are not proof that a vehicle lacks a feature. NHTSA vPIC is principally designed for standardized vehicles from model year 1981 onward and vehicles intended for the U.S. market.

VINDECODE is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Transportation or NHTSA. It does not provide title, ownership, odometer, accident, theft, or complete service history.
